I don’t know about you, but Fall is my favorite time of the year. Well, almost–Christmas Holidays send me over the top. The trees are starting to turn and the days are getting shorter. I would love to say there’s a chill in the air, but we had the hottest day of the year this week. Can you believe it? The hottest day of the year was in September in Marin County? I’m blown away by that. I’ve been really wanting to get out my Fall porch decorating boxes, but with the hot days we’ve had this week, its been a little hard to get on the bandwagon. Hubby and I are heading for a trip to the Sierra Foothills in the Northern California Gold Country soon. I know that they will be really amped up for Fall at Apple Hill in Camino, Ca. It’s really a fun time to go to Apple Hill and stay at the Historic Carey House for a few days. We take long walks and eat some really great food. But we love visiting our favorite wineries and have some fun there. We can spend an entire afternoon at Crystal Basin or Sierra Vista tasting the newest offerings, but the fun is having some laughs with the winery staff.

I did do a Michael’s run this week. I’ve seen some pretty Halloween themed wreaths made with deco mesh, so I stocked up. I bought some Purple (my favorite color, orange, lime green, and of course black. I also picked up a set of witches legs and a wire witches hat to put on the wreath. I’ll be sure and post the process. It should be pretty fun, and don’t you just love it when those creative juices get flowing and you just start having fun? I won’t be able to get to it this weekend, but maybe sometime next week I’ll get started on it. I’ve already got lots of ribbons in my stash to add, too.

Speaking of stash–I got some more pretty fine crepe paper from Lia Griffith–love the stuff. Unlike most fine crepes this is super stretchy and is easily formed into some beautiful buds. I’ll use it for poppies and dahlias for sure. I also picked up some pretty colors of crepe this week from Cartotecnica Rossi. Some lovely blues and greens to add to my holiday flower menu. Cartotecnica Rossi is located in Italy, but you would never know it by the quick service. Paper is usually at my front door in less than a week.

On the home front, the summer veggie garden is nearing its end. The last of the tomatoes are ripening on the vine, the squash are toast and ready to pull out. There are still a few lemon cucumbers coming, but the pickling cucumbers are done. Last weekend I put up 30 jars of pickles (cornichons are my best pickles), pickled up some beets and preserved a big basket of pears that came off Auntie Edie’s tree. Oh, and I made some pear sauce, too. It seems that the apple and pearsauce that I’ve been sending over to the 2 year old cutie next door have been devoured by Dad. I’m just glad that someone really likes the fruits of my labor–get it??

I’ve been locking myself in the studio most evenings. It seems that I have somehow gotten myself into 2 upcoming craft fairs–they are a week apart. What was I thinking?? This will be my first foray into the Craft Fair fun. I’m really looking forward to it. I’ve been giving some careful thought to my display. I bought some galvanized aluminum buckets like the ones you see in a French flower market to put some of my blooms in for everyone to see. I’m going to try to pick up a few more. I’m thinking I’m going to need about 2 dozen of about every flower and will make them in an assortment of colors. Roses though, I’m sure I’m going to need several dozen in the basic rose colors. I ordered some pretty pink tissue and some rolls of cellophane to wrap them in. I did pick up tons of ribbon a few weeks ago on a Michael’s run (I know, again) so I should be good to go. I do think I’m going to see if I can find a card sized table. I have a long table and the craft fairs provide on 6 ft table, but I think I’ll need at least one more, depending on the space. I’ve already ordered my signs and have them stashed under my desk. Next stop will be to have some postcards printed for handouts. I have to figure out how to add a promo discount to my website–anyone know how to do that???

I’m off for now. Please enjoy Fall–it’s so lovely. I’ll post again real soon–I promise!!
Happy Crafting!!!
